My answer on Quora to: Why is it that humans don’t have fur like most animals:

Apes and humans having similar bodies must use the energy they need to stay alive similarly. And since the brain takes a lot of it for their sizes and ours are bigger, it could have happened that in the course of evolution, we used to grow ours the energy that apes use to grow their hairs.
Women having smaller brains than men and having a more active hormonal life could also explain why women have fewer body hairs than men.
