TIME TO GROW UP!
MY PROBLEM? I am a 77-year-old learned-ignorant generalist with two general BAs (27 and 37) and one unspecialized MA in Zoo-Anthropo-Sociology (47), all undertook to find out from a global perspective why scientists cannot formulate our present existential crisis in solvable terms.
For your information, I saw this crisis comes at the age of 25 after realizing that 80% of the bodies of water I had swam in growing up were polluted.
I then decided to become a generalist after reading in Buckminster Fuller’s “Manuel d’instruction pour le vaisseau spatial “Terre”” (Operating Manual For Spaceship Earth) that:
Of course, our failures are a consequence of many factors, but possibly one of the most important is the fact that society operates on the theory that specialization is the key to success, not realizing that specialization precludes comprehensive thinking. (My bold)
And it is the later reading in Konrad Lorenz’s L’Envers du miroir une histoire naturelle de la connaissance (Behind The Mirror: A Search for a Natural History of Human Knowledge), “By knowing ever more and more on less and less specialists will finish by knowing everything about nothing; and philosophers by knowing less and less about more and more by knowing nothing about everything” that made me put aside all the reluctance I had to undertake a “second” general BA at the advanced age of 34 while working in a well-paid job in the mining industry, and after I had a dream revealing to me the original misconception of space and time at the root of all human understanding.
My problem, again, is that I have to write my essay in English in terms understandable by all honest minds from 9 to 99 at different levels of understanding (I’m no Einstein who could do it for six-year-olds).
I have many different drafts from many perspectives, but none are comprehensive enough for my taste. I am still searching for a clever way to present my thesis in a form acceptable to everybody.
You will ask me what is this “original misconception” I received in a dream some fifty years ago? I will tell you that I cannot divulge it before I formulate my theory based on its amendment since it contradicts everything you know. There are no rational ways to tell today’s academicians and pundits, what Giordano Bruno told the scholastic and the Clergy of his time that they did not know what they were talking about.
I’ll be back! When I find a safe way to tell you that you need to go back to when you were nine years old and start all over again on a new conception of time affecting your understanding of reality as heliocentric affected our perception of where we stand in the universe.
“There are few ideas that, like our notion of time, shape our thinking about literally everything, with major implications for physics and beyond — from climate change to the economic crisis.” Lee Smolin, Time Reborn, 2013
