Sure, it failed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, and all of South America,”

You forgot Korea (they failed in North Korea) and Vietnam!
The world, prompted by the U.S., is a global war economy in need of being “converted“ to a “peace economy.” Indeed, to save ourselves, we have to use the war resources of all the armies of the world to fight against our real natural enemies: flood, forest fire, earthquake, famine, and… pandemic.
What is pathetic is that it would work and be easy to install. We could indeed easily convert, for example, the B52 bombers into prefab-habitation carriers — Built under the guidance of IKEA and paid at cost by the world population. Prefabricated habitations that could be parachuted soon after an earthquake ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, so the affected communities start rebuilding their economies immediately.
If we did that, we would not need armies to defend ourselves against the enemies that they now create; they would be creating friendships around the world… at the same cost and with plenty of young volunteers. And it would be a beautiful world.
