I can tell you that the main difference between the other animals and us is at the level of consciousness in Bohm's understanding of quantum mechanics.

The other animals are "implicated" with their niche, in which they live like we live in our body, without any concrete representation (cf Kant) while we live in space and time, the dimensions that have given us the capacity to "explicate" (objectify) the spaciotemporal niche in which we live .
