"Cats and dogs are fundamentally different in their relationship with humans."

Cats are sedentary animals. They live in a restricted territory, which they get to know thoroughly and in which happen to live some humans who willingly act as their servants.

In nature, they sleep a lot in secured spots because they know where to get their food when they are hungry, knowing their prey's habits. They are lone hunters getting food whenever they want, thus their pickiness.

Dogs are pack and roaming animals. They live in open territories they like to explore, with humans, their leaders, to whom they are subordinated,

In nature, they have to continually roam their territory, searching for prey, which they corner as a pack. Whenever they catch one, they eat all they can while letting their leaders satiate themselves first.

These natural traits explain a lot, if not everything, about their respective relationship to humans and their territories.
